The Olympics, Part 2

Michael Phelps has just about wrapped up his Great Haul of China and we're getting ready for the individual gymnastics competition.

Here's a little politically incorrect olympics humor.

The Olympics

The opening ceremonies? Spectacular! Truly amazing!

I was so impressed by the thousands of people who performed, with very little help from special effects. However, I can only imagine what the government would have done if there was one lone person who was out of sync with all the rest. How ironic that the cost of the opening ceremonies was $600 million while the average monthly income of one country who marched was $110.

How about those costumes from each country as they marched into the stadium? The Hungarian dresses were from hunger. The Russian athlete's shirts were also horrendous.

How many countries had you never heard of before? Where is Lesotho? What about their costume? Shall I travel to Kiribati or Nauru for my next vacation? How about that guy from Monaco who looked exactly like Jimbo? I knew several countries simply because they had been locations for Survivor!

One moment that totally had me laughing 'til tears ran down my face was Pres. Bush tapping his foot and checking his watch as if he was thinking, "how much longer will this last?"

Some people don't like Bob Costas and Matt Lauer's commentaries but I really enjoy them. All their useless little pieces of trivia will help me on the OT trivia games, hopefully. Did you know that the longest wrestling match in Olympic history was in 1912 and took 11 hours? There 'ya go!

We've been recording the Olympics each night. Last night, I had the remote and I was fast-forwarding through some of it. Suddenly, Mr. Puffy says, "wait, can I see some of this?" Well, what do you know, it was beach volleyball!

Another strange Olympic moment was during the medal ceremony for Michael Phelps' first gold medal. The horrible rendition of the Star Spangled Banner started about 4 beats late, kept repeating the same couple of lines of music over and over again, and then abruptly ended a few bars early. Even Phelps looked puzzled.

To switch topics for a sec, I found a new reality show, "Then Came 6." It's the African-American version of Jon and Kate plus 8. This couple has a 12-year old son and 5-year old sextuplets. One of the little boys has autism and they suspect that one of the girls might have a similar, but less severe condition. It's sort of a "day in the life" kind of show, like Jon and Kate. It's on the Discovery Health channel.

I'm trying to see how I can post pictures in the Sanjana blog. Someone asked me to post pictures of the signatures on Sanjana so I took pictures of the whole thing.
